Another year, another chance to make fun things! Here are my making goals for 2026, more of a buffet of options that I might like to get to, vs a checklist:
Drawing & painting
- Participate in another Urban Sketchers outing
- Establish a regular sketchbook practice
- Give watercolor an honest shot, including trying it out in my Stillman & Birn Alpha sketchbook. I see other sketchers create beautiful things in watercolor, but I can’t seem to make it work for me. I’d like to give it another try before deciding it’s not my medium. Watercolor is so handy for sketching on location!
Knitting
Assuming I can fix the “Mommy’s Wrist” that is currently afflicting my right thumb and wrist…
- Finish the “My Baker’s Hat” I have cast on, and make a matching hat for my daughter
- Knit another pair of socks
- Attempt a sleeveless garment: a tank top or vest
- Knit more colorwork!
Sewing
- Make cheerful and functional things for my family and our home
- (Maybe) participate in my Modern Quilt Guild’s Block of the Month quilt: it’s weaving-themed!
- Sew a garment for myself further on in postpartum, when my weight has maybe stabilized?
Weaving
I haven’t really woven anything the past couple years, so it might be nice to dip back into. I should probably do something small, like a bookmark, but actually what I’d love to do is attempt to use my rug weaving loom again. Setting it up was difficult and intimidating, but I think weaving a rug will be really fun!! Let’s be brave in 2026.
Misc
- Try crochet with the Sanrio x Woobles kits I bought (Pompompurin and Pochacco!)
- Make a small trinket with clay
What would you like to make this year?
