After a series of more-challenging garment sewing projects, I’m pleased to have sewn up something quick and easy: the Chloe Book Pouch by Sewing Illustration!

A boxy-bottomed pouch made from black material. The flap has a patterned fabric of painted vertical stripes on a cream background.

I typically keep my journal in a Moterm cover, which does a good job of protecting the journal. However, this cover can add weight and bulk to a travel backpack, in which I’ve shoved 900 other things (I’m a plane activity over-packer). I decided to sew this boxy book pouch as a slimmer protective case for my journal. The pouch is meant for a paperback book, but since a B6 journal is roughly the size of a common Western paperback book, it’s a perfect fit.

This pouch took me less than a day, from ironing and cutting scraps from my stash, to final assembly. So nice to fly through a project!

The pouch opened, so that you can see the inner part of the flap is solid black and has a velcro dot on it.

The pattern doesn’t really include an enclosure, so I added a simple adhesive velcro dot.

My hand keeping the pouch open so you can view the lining. Said fabric is unbleached linen with a pattern of painted black and metallic gold dots.

The lining is the same linen from Stitches (in Seattle) that I used for the ottoman / pouf in our living room many moons ago.

The exterior feels a little bit blank, but I’m thinking I could put some pins there if I want to jazz it up. All in all, feeling very happy with the pouch and looking forward to using it for travel!
