I finally made a pair of box bags following Crafty Gemini’s pattern! Between the two of them, my mom and aunt have made a bunch of these.

Two long, boxy fabric pouches piled on top of each other on a self-healing cutting mat. One pouch has pink, yellow, and white egg fabric and a yellow zipper. The bottom pouch has red, green, and white apple fabric with a dark green zipper.

I used leftover fabric from the toy storage cubes I’d made, in apple and egg cotton prints. The default dimensions for these pouches is perfect for taking art supplies on the go, because the length leaves plenty of room for long Tombow Dual Brush Pens.

I also tried throwing some Posca pens in there and was pleasantly surprised at how many it could hold!

A few making details:

  • I followed Crafty Gemini’s quilting pattern of straight rows in a zigzag stitch. I like the look of a zigzag width of 5 and stitch length of 2.5.
  • I forgot to put a handle on the first pouch (eggs), since that’s not in her pattern.
  • For the second, I had a 7" leftover piece of webbing that I attached on the opposite side of the zipper pull. I sometimes have a bit of trouble thinking in 3D, so for next time: the handle should go “inside” the pouch when sewing the side seam, so that when you turn the pouch right-side out, the handle is in the right place!

All in all, super fun and quick little project. I could definitely see myself busting scraps with more box pouches in the future!
